Wine and Chewing Gum Carpet Stains: How Do You Remove Them?

Keeping your carpets clean is a hard task and it gets even harder when you have to deal with carpet stains that might seem too difficult to remove. Did you know that most of the stains can be easily removed by yourself? Although it is recommended to use a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year for your carpets, it’s a good idea to keep these tips on how to remove carpet stains:

Wine stains: How do you remove them?

Wine stains might seem difficult to remove, at first; however, remember to first and foremost use a clean cloth as soon as the wine spill has happened. Use a cloth that’s clean and that’s able to absorb the excess wine without you having to scrub. Remember to blot the wine damaged area of your carpet as long as it takes, until there’s no more wine that can be blotted out of the carpet. Sprinkle a chemical that absorbs the excess wine: Salt is a great ingredient found in almost every household and you can easily sprinkle some of it on the stain. Salt will then absorb the excess wine, in a matter of minutes. Remember: do not broom or pick the salt from the carpet by yourself. Use a hoover to extract the wine-soaked salt from the carpet. All you have to do afterwards is to use a cleaning ingredient to remove the remaining wine spill from your carpet.

Chewing gum on your carpet: How do you remove it?

Chewing gum left on your carpet is something that gets worse the longer it stays there. That’s simply because it hardens and it becomes more and more difficult to remove it. The wrong way to remove chewing gum from your carpet is to use a blunt knife and to try and scratch the chewing gum off. That’s also the wrong way, as carpet fibres from your carpet might get stuck on the chewing gum and they will break once you try to forcefully remove the gum. The easy and right way of removing chewing gum off your carpet is to harden it. You can do that by using an ice cube pressed against the chewing gum. Once the chewing gum blob hardens, you can easily pull it off from your carpets.

Some chewing gum blobs might be too difficult to remove, depending on their age and the nature of the fabric they’ve imprinted on. Before further damage is done to your carpet, give us a call on 951-302-1033 and we will walk you through it!
